Meadow’s Mirth has been in business for seven years and it keeps picking up speed. In addition to attending four weekly farmers’ markets and running a CSA, Josh and Jean Jennings supply great local restaurants like the Black Trumpet, Cava, 100 Club, Flatbread and the Portsmouth Brewery. And they’ve moved into year-round growing.
“We love our work,” Josh says simply. But they love to play, too. Jean, a former potter, kayaks and plays fiddle, and if you’re lucky you may even catching her singing at special occasions in the area. Josh, who used to be a baker, loves Jean’s old-time music and hits the water for saltwater fly-fishing in his time off.
You’ll likely find them sailing when they’re ready to retire from farming the land. Lucky for those of us who love this young couple’s organic, heirloom veggies, that day is a long way from now. (But try not to rub that in when you see them!)

New England is lucky to have White Heron Tea.
“On the West Coast,” says White Heron owner Jonathan Blakeslee, “tea is huge compared to here.” After graduating from the Western Culinary Institute, the native New Englander went on to work at a place called The Tao of Tea in Portland, Oregon. There, he made his way to theĀ Leaf Room, surrounded every day by more than 200 teas.
Jonathan has brought home what he learned. In 2005, he started White Heron Tea, New Hampshire’s very first fully organic certified tea company.
Hot or iced? Green, black or herbal? Decaf? Oolong? Jasmine? Pu-erh? Learn all about tea and take your pick of blends at the White Heron Tea booth. And pick up a smoothie or a breakfast burrito while you’re there… That’s right, White Heron Tea makes more than just beverages!
