Seacoast Growers’ Association is pleased to announce its upcoming
Senior Day at the Portsmouth farmers’ market on Saturday, September 22.
This celebration of appreciation for the elders of our community (age
62 and older) will take place during the regularly scheduled market,
which is held every Saturday in the City Hall parking lot on Junkins
Avenue from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In addition to the market’s bounty of local produce, meats and cheeses,
as well as delicious prepared foods and fine crafts, participating
vendors will offer all seniors in attendance a 10% discount and select
giveaways. SGA’s demonstration committee will also provide an array of
senior-specific services. Details remain to be determined, but such
services may include youths volunteering to carry bags for seniors, an
explanation of the state’s senior nutrition program and farmers’ market
coupons, and free chair massages. Suggestions of Senior Day activities
and applications to participate in this nonprofit event are welcome;

The guest musical act at Senior Day this year is the ever-popular
American Flyer, a bluegrass band playing contemporary tunes, originals
and covers … bring your tapping toes and dancing shoes!
Warm sunny days have spring sprouts shooting up! At the first markets, you can expect to find succulent spring greens and sturdy transplants for your garden.
